As we were so impressed with Wicklow mountain tours and their guide Joe, we booked another tour for North Ireland. Paddy Wagon tours are mostly known for their North Ireland and an additional sight of the Dark Hedges which appeared in Game of Thrones.
North Ireland is beautiful but a combination of bad weather (wind and rain) and a bad guide did not leave a good impression. Especially the guide from Paddy Wagon was rude (yelling on passengers), inconsiderate (did not want to heat up the bus although we were soaking wet) and even left two people behind because they were 10 minutes late (because language barrier). And he left them in the middle of nowhere, in Dark Hedges, their bags still on the bus. Folks, just choose a different tour company.
Ok, guide rant aside, scenery was very beautiful. We saw the famous forest of Dark Hedges and Ballintoy, both of which were scenes in the Game of Thrones. While we were visiting Carrick-a-rede rope bridge and its cliffs, the weather was quite ok. it was raining just a bit and there was no fog. There is an entrance fee if you want to cross the bridge to a small island (8 euro) but we didn’t do it. We were on a tight time schedule and we didn’t want to risk being left there by our crazy guide. And it did not seem worth it. It’s only a bridge after all.
We continued to Giant’s Causeway where the famous giant 🙂 made interesting formations on the coast line but it was so windy and rainy we just wanted to get back on the cold bus. After seeing the remains of the castle on the coast and church sunken in the sea, we went to Belfast for an hour where we searched for shelter in Burger King. Well, we didn’t explore Belfast as we should but at least we avoided pneumonia. It was time to go home and get warm 🙂
