One of the highlights in India for sure. Temple covered in gold and surrounded with water or ‘holly nectar’ full of big goldfish. It is breathtaking and I won’t even try to describe it, just take a look at the pictures. We had the nicest weather, cloudy with a little bit of sunshine, so the temple really stood out. You can really feel the holiness here. The complex is kept clean, some say that they clean the gold with milk every night and it sure is without a…

probably the second most popular tourist attraction in Amritsar. We got to the ceremonial closing of Wagah border (India-Pakistan) for Rs 100 each with ‘shared’ transport. That meant 10 people in one rickshaw 🙂 This was a very interesting and patriotic show everyone visiting Amritsar must see. Bring a hat and water as the trip is 6 hours long! And the last day we spent in the bed and on the toilet. Both of us. You know what they say – Sharing is caring! And another unpleasant thing…

These were some fun trips. The rat temple or Karni Mata temple is around 30km away from Bikaner and is quite an attraction. It is easily accessible by bus that costs only Rs20/person and it takes a good hour. I guess it’s not for people who don’t like rodents but we loved it! I was expecting rats everywhere as they say that there are over 5000 rats but it was really not that bad 🙂 You have to be barefoot so have that in mind. It’s a fine…

”You have such nice colors!” Thanks. I think. I actually didn’t know if he’s talking about my pants or something else, like my aura. Some people here have different interests 🙂 A guy from our neighbor country spent 11 weeks in Vipassana, the silent meditation. No speaking for almost 3 months. And looks like any other guy you meet on the street. I don’t think he engages in stupid conversations tough 🙂 We chose Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Meenakshi Ashram because of the program yoga vacation. We wanted to learn the…

These things marked our days in Madurai. We were enjoying different food in a nice restaurant Amritsagar and everything was very tasteful, full of spices and cheap. India is way cheaper than Sri Lanka. And then it happened. I was awakened in the middle of the night by the watery sounds of food poisoning. We knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. Poor Mic spent the whole night on the toilet. It was almost ok in the morning, thank you antibiotics! One down, one to go….

In Hinduism, Sadhu means ‘holy man’. Sadhus are ascetic, wandering monks that have been around for thousands of years. 4 to 5 millions of Sadhus live in India and have much respect because they are supposed to have special powers, like burning off karma, resolving conflicts in the families. Marijuana has an important role in their rituals. Some people fear them for their curses and some think of them as beggars. They live a meditating life in ashrams and temples, while the urban centre is all around them…
